Physical DescriptionA maple ladder-back chair with a four-slat back, rush seat, and sausage turned front stretchers. Metal chair glides are attached to the bottom of each leg. The manufacturer's mark is stamped on the underside of the back stretcher: VAL-KILL.
Historical NoteThe style of this chair was based on a ca. 1710 piece from the collection of Wallace Nutting (1861-1941) who collected antique furniture for photographic purposes.

Custodial History NoteListed in a 1970 auction of John A. Roosevelt belongings, the chair was purchased by the Armand Hammer Foundation for the Franklin D. Roosevelt Presidential Library and Museum.
