Physical DescriptionPart of a letter -- presumably from Florence B. McGuire, Attorney, since it is typed on her letter head -- to Eleanor Roosevelt dated October 9, 1947. The lower half of the letter is missing. After an introductory paragraph, the writer quotes a saying her father had used, which she thinks ER might use in "dealing with the Russians." The quote reads: He who believes every man honest proves to the world he has had little experience; he who believes every man dishonest gives to the world criterion by which to judge himself.
Historical NoteThis letter fragment was among the items found inside Eleanor Roosevelt’s wallet after her death. A facsimile of the letter is displayed alongside other items found in the wallet in the Museum’s FIRST LADY OF THE WORLD gallery.
