Physical DescriptionAn original black and white cartoon humorously referring to Eleanor Roosevelt’s reputation for constant travel as First Lady. The cartoon features an illustrated envelope addressed to “Mrs. Franklin D. Roosevelt / The White House / Washington / D. C.” The original address has been crossed out and replaced with numerous other crossed-out addresses throughout the country, some accompanied by notes, covering the surface of the envelope. Adhered to the surface of the envelope is an actual purple, ink-stamped “RETURNED TO WRITER” post office sticker with the “For better address” option checked. The envelope has a return address of “735 W. 24th St. / New York City” and is postmarked January 10, 1934, New York, NY. The artist’s signature is below the illustration: “PAUL CARRUTH.”
