Physical DescriptionA large red, white, and blue crocheted 48-star American flag. Within each of the forty-eight stars is a small, round portrait of the governor of each state, placed in the order of when that state entered the union. Threaded through a hole in the upper left corner of the flag’s white crocheted header is a gold-colored rope. Attached to one end of the rope is a white crocheted star, outlined in blue, with a picture of Franklin D. Roosevelt on one side and the words "DEC 7 1941" on the other. The other end of the rope has a similar crocheted star with a picture of General Douglas MacArthur on one side and the words "SEPT 13 1942" on the other.
Historical NoteThis handmade flag was sent to Franklin Roosevelt in April 1943 by the maker, Nila E. Budahn of Mayville, Wisconsin who made it in commemoration of Pearl Harbor.
