Physical DescriptionA clasp-back silver brooch in the form of a "V" (for Victory). Set onto the middle of the "V" is an very worn British Queen Victoria silver crown coin.
On the reverse of the brooch is an inscription that reads: “1st Reserve Brigade / 1943 A.L.”
Historical NoteEleanor Roosevelt received letters and small gifts from many servicemen and women during World War II. This silver “Victory” brooch was sent to the First Lady by Sergeant A. Lazarus, 1st Reserve Brigade, on May 26, 1943. Sergeant Lazarus was stationed at Camp Zonderwater in South Africa at the time.Additional DetailsOn the reverse of the brooch is an inscription that reads: “1st Reserve Brigade / 1943 A.L.”
