Physical DescriptionA wood and hand-tooled leather nameplate for Franklin Roosevelt. Surrounded by various tooled designs, including an eagle and a patriotic shield, is FDR's name in black: President / Franklin D. Roosevelt. The leather portion is mounted into a stained-wood stand. Attached to the reverse of the stand is a 2½" x 4½" tooled leather label that reads: COMPLIMENTS / OF / SADDLER'S SCHOOL / THE CAVALRY SCHOOL / FORT RILEY, KANSAS / MAKER ~ SGT. A. C. GREEN.
Historical NoteSergeant Austin “Slim” C. Green presented this nameplate to FDR during the President’s visit to Fort Riley, Kansas on April 25, 1943. Green worked in the fort’s saddle shop. After the war he became a world-renowned saddle maker. The nameplate design features an eagle taken from the back of a dollar coin and the presidential shield.

Custodial History NoteDeposited at the Franklin D. Roosevelt Presidential Library and Museum by Franklin D. Roosevelt on June 1, 1943. It was donated as a bequest of FDR to the Library in 1947.
