Physical DescriptionA Portuguese language poster titled, “A Fortaleza Voadora" [The Flying Fortress], promoting inter-American solidarity during World War II. The poster features a large illustration of a U.S. Army Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress aircraft as seen from below while in flight. The artist’s facsimile signature is in the lower left of the poster: “Bob Williams.” Below the image is the U.S. Air Force insignia roundel and text that states: “Orgulho do exército dos Estados Unidos . . . Colosso entre os bombardeiros . . . dominador invencível do espaço."
Printed in small text along the bottom of the poster: "COORDENADOR DE ASSUNTOS INTERAMERICANOS / COMMERCE BUILDING, WASHINGTON, D. C.”
Historical NotePresident Roosevelt created the Office of the Coordinator of Inter-American Affairs during World War II to counter Italian and German propaganda in Latin America and promote political, economic, and cultural ties with the United States. He appointed Nelson Rockefeller as the Coordinator. This poster is one in a series created by the Office of the Coordinator of Inter-American Affairs depicting Franklin D.
