Physical DescriptionA World War II U.S. production poster issued by the U.S. Department of Labor’s Wage and Hour Division based in New Yok, NY. The small, black and white text-based poster features the text of the 1942 “RAILROAD WAGE ORDER (TRUNKLINES AND SHORTLINES).” The opening line of the Order reads, “Every employee employed by a railroad or a company engaged in allied operations as defined below shall be paid a wage of NOT LESS THAN 40¢ AN HOUR on or after August 31, 1942.” The rest of the text goes on to outline the details of the Order. At the bottom of the poster are the facsimile signature of Frances Perkins, Secretary of Labor (left) and Lewis Metcalfe Walling, Administrator (right).
