Physical DescriptionA World War II U.S. production poster issued by the U.S. Department of Labor, titled “UNITED STATES GOVERNMENT CONTRACT NOTICE TO EMPLOYEES.” The small, black and white text-based poster is a mandatory U.S. Government notice informing those employed by contracted companies of their rights under the Walsh-Healey Public Contracts Act. Outlined in the Act, “An employee who works on this Government contract is subject to the act and MUST BE PAID TIME AND ONE-HALF FOR ALL HOURS OVER 8 IN ANY DAY OR 40 IN ANY WEEK.” The poster goes on to outline minimum wage standards and working conditions outlined by the Act, as well as stating that the employment of children (boys under 16, girls under 18) or convict labor is prohibited.
