Physical DescriptionA woven hearth basket in the shape of a curved oval with a handle. The basket is open at the ends to hold fire wood, etc. Two wooden dowels, attached to the underside of each end with iron alloy nails, form the base of the basket.
Historical NoteThis hearth basket was originally filled with pinecones and tied with a bow as a Christmas gift to FDR in December 1941 from Elizabeth Philips Montgomery, wife of Robert Bowne Suckley and the mother of Margaret "Daisy" Suckley. The basket was later filled with wood logs by Roosevelt Library staff. It is on display in FDR'S PRIVATE STUDY in the Permanent Exhibit.Additional Details
