Physical DescriptionA Lenox charger plate from the Franklin D. Roosevelt White House china service. At the center of the cream-colored background is the Great Seal of the United States in gold. A thick gold band encircles the inner well of the plate and the Great Seal. The outer rim of the plate is decorated with 48 gold stars (one for each state at the time).
On the underside of the plate, the manufacturer's information is stamped in green: “[Lenox logo] / LENOX / MADE IN U.S.A.” The numbers “1326/P362A” are handwritten in gold.
Historical NoteThis plate is part of a set of china featuring the Great Seal of the United States. Made for the 1939 World’s Fair by Thomas Haviland and Lenox, the set was on display in the U.S. Pavilion at the Fair. After the Fair closed in 1940, the china was delivered to the White House and incorporated into the china service.On the underside of the plate, the manufacturer's information is stamped in green: “[Lenox logo] / LENOX / MADE IN U.S.A.” The numbers “1326/P362A” are handwritten in gold.
