Physical DescriptionA scale model of the armed, single-screw tanker, USS BIG HORN (AO-45/IX-207). The wooden ship, painted battleship gray, has two masts and one smoke stack. The model is fixed to a black-painted wood base.
Historical NoteThe USS BIG HORN (AO-45/IX-207) was previously the SS GULF DAWN. This model was made by David J. Culpeper, QM2C, USNR and his shipmates. It was presented to President Roosevelt by Vincent Astor (on behalf of Mr. Culpeper) in November 1943.
