Physical DescriptionA large campaign jugate handkerchief. At the center of the white handkerchief are black and white portraits of Theodore Roosevelt (left) and Charles Fairbanks (right) with text above and below that reads: THE RIGHT MEN IN THE / RIGHT PLACE. / FOR PRESIDENT / THEODORE ROOSEVELT / OF NEW YORK / FOR VICE-PRESIDENT / CHARLES W. FAIRBANKS / OF INDIANA. / 1904. The images and text are encircled by a laurel leaf wreath with a bow at the bottom with text that reads: PROTECTION / EXPANSION / PROSPERITY / SOUND MONEY. A pattern of blue squares and rectangles decorates the perimeter of the handkerchief.
Historical NoteTheodore Roosevelt and Charles W. Fairbanks were the Republican Party’s successful presidential and vice presidential candidates in 1904.This handkerchief was sent to Franklin Roosevelt on October 5, 1943 by a resident of Moline, Kansas.
