The man is wearing a short brown bliaut (or bliaud) with green, blue, and orange trim over cross-gartered green hose. In his right hand he is holding a feather quill, and in his left hand is a piece of paper. An illustration of a Tudor-style building is in the background. Printed below the images is text that reads: PLATE NO. 22 / MIDDLE AGES MIDDLE CLASS / 1000 A. D. 1300 A. D. Printed in the upper left is a keystone insignia inside which is text that reads: MUSEUM / EXTENSION / PROJECT / WPA / PITTSBURGH / PENNA UNIT.
