Physical DescriptionA handmade 1932 anti-Prohibition campaign ribbon. On a piece of fine, cream-colored burlap type fabric is black and red embroidered text that reads: “REPEAL 18TH AMENDMENT.” The ribbon has a fringe at the top and bottom edges.
Historical NoteThe 18th Amendment to the Constitution, ratified in 1919, banned the manufacture and sale of intoxicating liquors. Repeal of the amendment was a major plank in the Democratic Party’s 1932 platform and was promoted in campaign buttons and paraphernalia.
