Physical DescriptionA small model of a troop transport ship (troopship). The wooden ship is painted gray with a black hull. The model is mounted to a stained wood base. Two brass plaques are affixed to the base. The plaque on the starboard side is inscribed: TO OUR COMMANDER-IN-CHIEF / FRANKLIN DELANO ROOSEVELT. The plaque on the port side is inscribed: COMPLIMENTS OF / COMET METAL PRODUCTS CO., INC.
Historical NoteThis recognition model of a troop transport ship was made by the Comet Metal Products Company of Long Island, New York. It was presented to FDR in May 1944 by the company’s president, Mr. Abraham Slonim.
