Physical Descriptiona) A small, alcohol desk thermometer inserted into a brown plastic base. Printed on the reverse side of thermometer: Insurance Company of North America A Philadelphia Institution Since 1792.

b) The thermometer was covered by a glass tube which is now stored separately.
Historical NotePresident Roosevelt kept this thermometer on his Oval Office desk. It was distributed by the Insurance Company of North America and presented to FDR on April 4, 1942 by Marie L. McGinty. The thermometer is on display in the FDR’S OVAL OFFICE DESK exhibit in the Museum’s APRIL 12, 1945 gallery.
