Scottie Dog Cigarette Box

Physical Descriptiona) A light colored wood cigarette box with a carved and painted black Scottie dog perched on top. A wire that connects the tail to the underside of the lid allows the hinged tail of the dog to raise the lid of the box when the tail is pressed. The interior bottom of the box is lined with blue felt. The underside of the box has green paper adhered to it.

b) A package of Camel cigarettes (produced by the R. J. Reynolds Tobacco Co.) with ten remaining cigarettes. The cigarettes are contained in the cigarette box (a).

At one time the box also contained a copy of a poem for "Falla" written by the gifter, Siegfried Heyman. The poem is now stored in the object's Accession Record.
Historical NoteThis cigarette box was presented to FDR in December 1944 by Siegfried Heyman of New York City. The package of Camel cigarettes stored in this box was left by FDR on his last visit to his private study in March 1945. The box is on display in FDR'S PRIVATE STUDY in the Permanent Exhibit.
