The model is fixed to a stand in the shape of a bell with an inscribed eagle and shield: F.D. ROOSEVELT / PRESIDENT / 1933.
Historical NoteMany of FDR’s admirers sent him handmade gifts. This model of the caravel, PROSPERITY, was made by J. G. Wilburt and sent to President Roosevelt as a gift in 1933. The ship’s front sail features the initials and blue eagle symbol of the National Recovery Administration (NRA). This model is on display in the GIFTS FROM THE PEOPLE exhibit in the Museum’s NEW DEAL gallery.
