Historical NoteOud-Vossemeer is a village on the island of Tholen in the Netherlands, and where some of both Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt's Dutch ancestors originated from. The village is also the location of a 1992 monument honoring the Four Freedoms outlined by Franklin D. Roosevelt in his January 6, 1941 State of the Union Address to Congress as the United State entered into World War II.

This commemorative plate was sent to Eleanor Roosevelt in 1951 by J. J. [Johannes Jan] Versluys, the burgemeester (mayor) of Oud-Vossemeer. Mrs. Roosevelt had visited the village the previous year.
