Physical Descriptiona) A vase made of heavy Swedish crystal. On it is a large etching of a ship that forms the principal design. Inscribed around the rim: PRESIDENT & MRS. FRANKLIN D. ROOSEVELT FROM GUSTAF ADOLPH & LOUISE 1938. Etched above the image of the ship are crown symbols -- one on the left and three on the right.

b) The vase is housed in a custom, blue-painted wood case with a hinged top and side.
Historical NoteThis vase was presented to President Roosevelt at Hyde Park in commemoration of the 1938 visit of Crown Prince Gustaf Adolph and Princess Louise of Sweden. It was designed by Simon Gate from a concept by Lawrence A. Steinhardt, U.S. Minister to Sweden.
