Physical DescriptionA stamp cover commemorating the second crossing of the Equator by the USS ARIZONA. On the left side of the envelope is a printed color cachet with an elaborate, multi-part illustration commemorating the May 20, 1936 crossing of the Equator by the USS ARIZONA and the United States Fleet. The illustration includes various maritime and naval images including a seahorse, mermaids, King Neptune, and U.S. Navy ships. The artist's name is incorporated into the bottom of the artwork: E. DIPER.
The envelope is addressed (typed) to: The Honorable / Franklin D. Roosevelt, / President of the United States, / The White House, / Washington, D.C. Adhered in the upper right corner of the envelope is a U.S. 1933 violet 3¢ Century of Progress Issue stamp (Scott 729). The envelope is postmarked U.S.S. ARIZONA, May 20, 1936 with a "NEPTUNE'S DOMAIN" cancellation. There is no return address.
