Physical DescriptionA stamp cover commemorating Franklin D. Roosevelt’s 1934 Presidential Cruise and Independence Day on the U.S. Navy cruiser, USS HOUSTON (CL/CA-30). On the left side of the envelope is a red and blue cachet consisting of an illustration showing a silhouette view of a Navy ship above which is the American flag. Text on the cachet reads: - 4th July - / PRESIDENTIAL CRUISE / Aboard the U. S. S. HOUSTON / - 1934 -.”
The envelope is addressed to (typed): “The President, / U.S.S. Houston.” There is no return address. Adhered in the upper right corner of the envelope is a U.S. 1933 violet 3¢ National Recovery Act Issue stamp (Scott 732). The envelope is postmarked U.S.S. HOUSTON, July 4, 1934 with an "INDEPENDENCE DAY" cancellation.
