Physical DescriptionA stamp cover commemorating the recommissioning of the U.S. Navy destroyer, USS SATTERLEE (DD-190). On the left side of the envelope is a maroon and blue cachet with an illustration of a wooden dock in the forefront and a silhouette view of a Navy destroyer in the water in the background. Text above and below the image reads: “U.S. NAVY Recommissions WAR TIME DESTROYERS / USS SATTERLEE DD 190 / FIRST DAY POSTAL SERVICE.” The cachet maker’s name is in the lower left corner of the image:” GEO NEUMANN.”

The envelope is addressed to (typed): "Commander-in-Chief of the Army and Navy / The White House / Washington, D. C." There is no return address. Adhered in the upper right corner of the envelope are two U.S. stamps: a 1938 green 1¢ George Washington stamp (Scott 804), and a 1938 rose carmine 2¢ John Adams stamp (Scott 806). The envelope is postmarked U. S. S. SATTERLEE, February 28, 1940 with a "SAN JUAN P.R. / 1ST CANCEL" cancellation.
