Physical DescriptionA stamp cover commemorating the crossing of the Equator by the U.S. Navy cruiser, USS CHESTER (CA-27). On the left side of the envelope is a green ink stamped cachet that features a box within which has been adhered a small sepia tone photograph of the USS CHESTER. Text above and below the box reads: Entering the Domain / of / Neptune Rex / “Crossing the Line” / LAT. 0-00-0 LONG. 81-0-00 / ON BOARD / U.S.S. CHESTER / 1936 SOUTH AMERICAN CRUISE.

The envelope is addressed to (typed): President / Franklin D. Roosevelt / White House / Washington, D. C. Adhered in the upper right corner of the envelope is a U.S. 1935 purple 3¢ Michigan Centennial Issue stamp (Scott 775). The envelope is postmarked U.S.S. CHESTER, May 20, 1936, with a "LAT 0-00-0 / LONG 81-0-00" cancellation.

The return address is ink stamped in black on the reverse of the envelope: STAMPS, COINS, CURIOS & ANTIQUE SHOP / W. G. CROSBY, U. S. NAVY RETIRED.
