Physical DescriptionAn unused envelope with a thermographic cachet honoring the 25th anniversary of the opening of the Panama Canal Zone on August 15, 1939. The purple cachet features a paragraph regarding the opening of the canal headed by the text: 25TH ANNIVERSARY / OPENING / THE PANAMA CANAL / FIRST DAY PANAMA CANAL ISSUE. At the bottom of the cachet is an illustration of the canal with the dates "1914" and "1939", on which has been adhered a small black and white photograph of a ship sailing through a valley with the caption below: S. S. ANCON IN GAILLARD CUT. Printed in the upper right corner of the envelope: U. S. / Postage / 3 Cents.
