Physical DescriptionA campaign jugate poster. Printed across the top width of the off-white poster is text that reads: Their Election Means Peace, Progress, and Prosperity. At the center of the poster are rectangular sepia photographic headshots of James Cox (left) and Franklin Roosevelt (right). Each of the images is copyrighted in a lower corner: © BAKER / ART / GALLERY / COL.O. Below each image are the facsimile signatures of Cox and Roosevelt and text that reads: Democratic Nominee for President [under Cox] / Democratic Nominee for Vice-President [under Roosevelt]. Immediately below FDR's image is the maker's information: ROTOPRINT GRAVURE CO., N. Y. Two union bugs are located at the bottom of the poster.
Historical NoteIn 1920, FDR was the Democratic Party’s candidate for Vice President of the United States on a ticket headed by Ohio Governor James M. Cox. A facsimile of this Cox and Roosevelt campaign poster is on display in the RISING POLITICAL STAR exhibit in the Museum’s FOUNDATIONS OF A PUBLIC LIFE gallery.
