Physical DescriptionA First Day of Issue stamp cover commemorating the 1932 Olympic Winter Games at Lake Placid, New York. On the left side of the white envelope is a stamped purple ink cachet consisting of an illustration, within a circle, of a ski jumper over an outline of the United States. Text above and below the illustration reads: FIRST DAY ISSUE OF / III Olympic / Winter Games / COMMEMORATIVE STAMP / [Olympic rings symbol] / LAKE PLACID, N. Y. / JANUARY 25, 1932 / CACHET SPONSORED BY C. OF C. A handwritten autograph line (unsigned) in pencil is above the cachet.

The envelope is addressed to (handwritten in ink): Mr. C. S. Gorman / 2623 -13 St., N. W / Washington, D.C. Adhered in the upper right corner of the envelope is a U.S. 1932 carmine rose 2¢ Skier at Lake Placid postage stamp (Scott 716). The envelope is postmarked Lake Placid, New York, January 25, 1932.

On the reverse of envelope is the logo for the New York Athletic Club of the City of New York.
Historical NoteThe 1932 Winter Olympics, officially known as the III Olympic Winter Games, took place in Lake Placid, New York from February 4-15, 1932. On February 4, 1932, Governor Franklin D. Roosevelt formally opened the Olympics in Lake Placid.
