Physical DescriptionA large, brass medallion with relief images of the head of Franklin D. Roosevelt, factories labeled IDLE and BUSY, and the NRA eagle. Attached to the top of the medallion is a chain for hanging. The artist's name is inscribed on the reverse: L.CANZIANI PLAINFIELD. N.J. 1934.
Historical NoteMany of FDR’s admirers sent him handmade gifts. This brass medallion was created by L. Canziani of Plainfield, New Jersey. It features FDR’s likeness and the National Recovery Administration (NRA) eagle symbol set amid ‘Idle’ and ‘Busy’ factories. Canziani sent the medallion to FDR in 1934. It is on display in the GIFTS FROM THE PEOPLE exhibit in the Museum’s NEW DEAL gallery.
