Physical DescriptionAn original watercolor painting of a carved and painted figure used as a signpost. It shows a man in Colonial era clothing. Written in pencil on the reverse: Fortuna.
Historical NoteThis watercolor was created for the Works Progress Administration (WPA) Index of American Design by the Massachusetts Art Project, Federal Art Project, Works Project Administration. It depicts a signpost used in 1770 by William Williams, a maker of mathematical instruments at One Long Wharf, Boston, Massachusetts.
