Physical DescriptionA wood plaque to which is mounted a piece of the cable used in the construction of the Thousand Islands Bridge. Attached to the plaque below the cable is a rectangular silver plate with an engraved inscription that reads: PRESENTED TO / HON. FRANKLIN DELANO ROOSEVELT / PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES / IN SYMBOL OF / A GOOD NEIGHBOR PROJECT BETWEEN / THE UNITED STATES AND CANADA / BY THE / THOUSAND ISLANDS BRIDGE AUTHORITY / APRIL 19, 1938.
The reverse side of the plaque has green felt adhered to it.
Historical NoteBuilt across the St. Lawrence River, the Thousand Islands Bridge is a bridge system connecting the United States and Canada with New York State on one end and the province of Ontario on the other end. President Franklin D. Roosevelt and Canadian Prime Minister William L. Mackenzie King attended the dedication and opening of the bridge on August 18, 1938.The reverse side of the plaque has green felt adhered to it.
This plaque likely marks the completion of the bridge's cable work in April 1938.
