Physical DescriptionAn original ink and gouache caricature of Franklin D. Roosevelt. The wash drawing, done in shades of gray and white, shows a head and shoulders portrait of FDR. He is turned partially to the proper left and is wearing a dark suit jacket, a white shirt, and a dark tie. FDR had a broad smile on his face. The artist's signature is the upper right: Cesare. Several pencil numbers and notations are in the margins of the artwork sheet.
Historical NoteThis caricature of FDR was originally published in the magazine "The Outlook and Independent” in 1931 after FDR's reelection to a second term as governor of New York in November 1930. In 1934, the caricature was used in Don Wharton's book, "The Roosevelt Omnibus." Wharton had received the portrait from the artist, Oscar Edward Cesare.Additional Details
