Physical DescriptionA partially rounded, dark red porcelain fountain pen holder. The manufacturer's name, "ESTERBROOK," is stamped three times into the silver metal collar of the pen hole. The underside of the holder is lined with black felt onto which has been stamped the manufacturer's information: Esterbrook / DESK SET / No. 116 / Made in U.S.A.

Adhered to the pen holder, just below the pen opening, is a round, paper auction sticker with the following information: ESTATE OF ELEANOR ROOSEVELT / NO. 950 / HYDE PARK, N. Y.


Historical NoteThis pen holder, along with an accompanying fountain pen (see MO 1970.52b), was used by Eleanor Roosevelt on her desk at Val-Kill Cottage in Hyde Park, NY.

Custodial History NoteListed in a 1964 auction of items from the Estate of Eleanor Roosevelt and purchased by Abba Schwartz. Donated to the Franklin D. Roosevelt Presidential Library and Museum by Abba Schwartz in 1970.
