The eyes, mouth, and cigarette holder in FDR's mouth are composed using the letters of FDR's initials in red orange. The artist's name and address are printed in blue crayon in the upper left corner of the artwork sheet: IRVING / HOFFMAN / 247 PARK AVE / PLAZA 38981.
Historical NoteCartoonist Irving Hoffman created this caricature of FDR in 1942 for public relations pioneer and press agent Steve Hannagan. Hannagan sent it on to Stephen Early at the White House in March of that year with an unfulfilled request to have FDR sign the drawing.
