Physical DescriptionA photographic print of a drawing of the head, shoulders, and chest of Joseph Stalin. He is turned slightly towards the left and is shown wearing a military uniform. A facsimile of the artist's signature is in the lower right corner: B. Karpov. In the lower margin of the print's mat is an original ink inscription in Russian dated June 6, 1944 and Stalin's signature. The print is within a chrome frame with glazing and a wood backing.

Due to the extreme fading of the original inscription and signature, a new mat with a darkened reproduction of the inscription has been placed over the original mat.
Historical NoteJoseph Stalin sent FDR this inscribed portrait after receiving news of the Allied invasion of Normandy on June 6, 1944. His (translated) inscription reads: “To President Franklin D. Roosevelt, in memory of the day of the invasion of northern France by the allied American and British liberating armies—from his friend, Joseph V. Stalin, June 6, 1944.”
