Physical DescriptionA cardstock donor card authorizing the donation of Eleanor Roosevelt's eyes to The Eye-Bank for Sight Restoration, Inc. The card is signed by Eleanor Roosevelt as the donor, and Franklin D. Roosevelt, Jr. as the next-of-kin.
Historical NoteAt the time of her death, Eleanor Roosevelt had bone marrow tuberculosis and aplastic anemia, which were likely the reasons her eyes were not donated. This card was among the items found inside Mrs. Roosevelt’s wallet after her death. A facsimile of the card is displayed alongside other items found in the wallet in the Museum’s FIRST LADY OF THE WORLD gallery.
