Physical DescriptionA black onyx pin in the shape of an oval cylinder with angled ends. Mounted on each end of the cylinder is a small gold band to which is attached four seed pearls. A safety bar pin is on the reverse. There is no maker's mark visible.
Historical NoteEleanor Roosevelt’s grandmother, Mary Livingston Ludlow Hall, gave her this mourning pin in 1894 when Eleanor’s father died. It is on display in the ELEANOR ROOSEVELT exhibit in the Museum’s FOUNDATIONS OF A PUBLIC LIFE gallery.
