Physical Descriptiona) A pewter matchbox holder with a Seal of the President of the United States medallion on the top. The holder is open on three sides to accommodate a box of matches. Made by Val-Kill Industries, the holder is unmarked with the manufacturer's information.
b) Inserted into the holder is a two-piece box of Signal Light matches, made by The Diamond Match Co. Twenty-five unused matches are housed in the matchbox.
Historical NoteThis matchbox holder, possibly created in 1933, is an example of an item produced by Val-Kill Industries and distributed by Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt as Christmas gifts in 1935.b) Inserted into the holder is a two-piece box of Signal Light matches, made by The Diamond Match Co. Twenty-five unused matches are housed in the matchbox.
