Physical DescriptionA painting depicting a winter view of the Hudson River Valley through bare trees, with the Catskill Mountains in the background. A small village is seen in the forefront at the bottom of a hill. The artist's signature is in the lower right: James Scott. A label on the reverse reads: Public Works of Art Project / Room 168 Treasury Department / Artist: James Scott / Region: #2 / Title: Hudson Highlands - Oil / Disposition: Sen. A. W. Barkley / Room 437 S.O.B. Date: 5/23/34 / This picture is the property of the United States Government.

The painting is framed in a 2 3/4"w gold-painted wood frame. A metal plaque attached to the bottom center of the frame reads: PUBLIC WORKS OF ART PROJECT.
Historical NoteThis painting was created for the Treasury Department’s Public Works of Art Project (PWAP) Region #2. It was displayed at a PWAP exhibit at the Corcoran Gallery from April 24-May 20, 1934. The artist was a member of the Dutchess County (New York) Art Association.
