Physical DescriptionAn original black and white cartoon featuring Franklin D. Roosevelt's Scottish terrier dog, Fala. The cartoon is an outdoor scene showing Fala sitting near an exterior White House door. He is looking at a pile of luggage in front of the door, each of the pieces marked with Eleanor Roosevelt’s initials. The artist's signature is in the lower right corner of the cartoon: “A S FOSTER.”
Historical NoteIn 1942, American illustrator and cartoonist Alan Foster created a series of cartoons, titled "Fala," for Liberty magazine. This cartoon appeared in the June 6, 1942 issue of Liberty with the capation, "Going or coming, I wonder?"Additional Details
Custodial History NoteListed in a 1970 auction of John A. Roosevelt belongings, the cartoon was purchased by the Armand Hammer Foundation for the Franklin D. Roosevelt Presidential Library and Museum.
