Physical DescriptionA circular red ceramic dog bowl. The bowl has raised lettering on both sides reading: DOG. The top opening is smaller in circumference than the flat base.
Historical NoteThis dog bowl for President Roosevelt’s dog, Fala, was kept in the President’s Study in the White House residence. FDR had a lifelong affection for pets. The best known was Fala, a Scottish terrier given to him by his distant cousin, Margaret “Daisy” Suckley, in 1940. During World War II, Fala became Roosevelt’s constant companion and the most famous dog in America. This dog bowl is on display in the FALA exhibit in the Museum’s WORLD WAR II gallery.
