Physical DescriptionA bound series of original pencil sketches from a small sketchbook. The sketches, on seven double-sided pages, feature scenes along the coast between East Port, Maine and Canada's St. John, New Brunswick. Some of the locations, including East Port, New Brunswick, Point La Preau, and St. John, are identified on the sketches.
Historical NoteFranklin D. Roosevelt purchased the sketchbook containing these drawings for $1.00 from the State House Book Shop in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania sometime between 1910 and 1930. FDR knew the region represented in the sketches well. He spent many summer months on Campobello Island in New Brunswick both as a child and an adult and sailed the surrounding waters many times. His connection with that area likely motivated the purchase of the sketchbook.
