Physical DescriptionA bookcase made of black walnut. The bookcase has three adjustable wood shelves, bracket feet, and a gallery top. In script style gilt lettering on both the top front and top reverse is the personalization: FDR / 1944. In addition, a metal plaque attached to reverse is inscribed: Presented to / Franklin Delano Roosevelt / President of the United States of America / by the Carpenters & Painters / of the White House Maintenance Staff / December 25, 1944.
Historical NoteThis bookcase was presented to President Roosevelt by the carpenters and painters of the White House maintenance staff at Christmas 1944. FDR used this bookcase to store his stamps and stamp albums. It is on display in FDR'S PRIVATE STUDY in the Permanent Exhibit.Additional Details
