Physical DescriptionA World War II U.S. Army conservation poster titled “FEET FIRST!” The color poster features a painted illustration depicting a closeup view of a soldier’s lower legs and feet as he trudges through the mud of a battlefield. In the background is a full image of another soldier, wielding a bayonet, also walking through the muddy field. The artist’s facsimile signature is in the lower right corner of the image: “Bill Randall.” Text below the illustration instructs: “KEEP SHOES IN FIGHTING TRIM / REPAIR · CHANGE · USE DUBBING."

At the bottom of the poster is the name and logo of the “OFFICE OF THE QUARTERMASTER GENERAL” and the U.S. Army Conservation Program “SAVE” logo. Additional small text in the bottom margin reads: “U.S. GOVERNMENT PRINTING OFFICE : 1944—O-602807 / ARMY CONSERVATION PROJECT NO. 103-Q-37.”

Printed on the reverse side of the poster are instructions for posting and distribution.
