Physical DescriptionA World War II U.S. Army conservation poster titled “Playing for Keeps.” The color poster features an artwork illustration of a U.S. Army soldier aiming and shooting his rifle. Next to him, a bullet ricochets off an architectural column with Asian characters engraved on it. In the distance, against a backdrop of mountains, an Asian village is seen burning. Overlaying the bottom of the image are illustrations of cans of lubricant and rifle cleaner with accompanying text that states: "Keep Weapons Ready / • Handle Carefully / • Clean Regularly / • Ship Properly." Below the cans is the additional message to “Use these - they fit your cartridge belt."

The U.S. Army Conservation Program “SAVE” logo is in the lower right quadrant of the poster. In the bottom margin of the poster is small text that reads: “ARMY CONSERVATION PROJECT N0. 151-O-31 / U. S. GOVERNMENT PRINTING OFFICE : 1945—O-640724.

Printed on the reverse side of the poster are instructions for posting and distribution.
