Charles Wheeler Locke

American, 1899 - 1983
Artist for the New York Art Project, Federal Art Project, Works Progress Administration. Locke was a painter, lithographer, illustrator and teacher. He studied at the Ohio Mechanic Institute, which became known as the Cincinnati Art Academy. Further studies were in New York at the Art Students’ League with Joseph Pennell. He also studied with Herman Henry Wessel and John Ellsworth Weis. Locke taught lithography at the Art Students’ League between 1922 and 1937.
