Walter Richards was born in Ohio and attended the Cleveland School of Art. He moved to New York City in 1936 and worked as an illustrator for national magazines and advertising firms from the 1930s through the 1960s. Richards also created the designs for 37 U.S. stamps. His paintings are in the collections of the Cleveland Museum of Art, the New Britain Museum, and other institutions.
