Label TextWorking women struggled to find suitable day care for their young children. During the war, the federal government provided grants for childcare services in communities with defense factories. These funds helped support over 3000 childcare centers. Yet demand far exceeded supply. Despite postwar efforts to retain a federal role in childcare (including backing from Eleanor Roosevelt) the government ended its funding for day care in 1946.Small text along the bottom edge has the poster information: Extended School Services, U.S. Office of Education, Federal Security Agency / U.S. GOVERNMENT PRINTING OFFICE : 1943 O - 524499.
