The letters "OCD" are very large and inside them are blue-tone photographic images of crowds of people. The illustrator's facsimile signature is in the lower right corner of the poster: EMILY NEWMAN.

Label TextIn 1942, this poster, designed by Emily Newman of Red Bank, Jersey, won first place in a national competition sponsored by the U.S. Office of Civilian Defense (OCD). At the time, Newman was an art student at the Pratt Institute in Brooklyn. Produced in various sizes, the poster was distributed throughout the country as part of the war effort.The poster was printed by the U.S. Government Printing Office, poster no. 1942-O-473121.
