DescriptionA color poster encouraging enlistment in the U.S. Navy Submarine Service. The poster features a large head and shoulders illustration of a young woman and a U.S. Navy sailor in his white undress uniform. The couple is embracing, each with an arm around the shoulder of the other, as the woman fingers a Submarine Combat Patrol insignia with 3 gold stars (denoting four successful patrols) pinned to the sailor’s uniform above various service ribbons. The artist’s facsimile signature is on the right side of the illustration: “Jon Whitcomb.” Below the illustration, white and black text reads: “He volunteered for SUBMARINE SERVICE.”
